Woman dead, child in hospital in suspected case of carbon monoxide poisoning in Calgary: police

The Calgary Police Service says one person has died after emergency crews were called to a home in the south end of the city on Tuesday about a suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

Police said emergency responders were called to a residence in the 100 block of Shawmeadows Crescent at about noon.

They said a woman and a child were found in the home. The child was rushed to the Alberta Children’s Hospital and is expected to survive but the woman has died.

An official with the Calgary Fire Department said it is believed the carbon monoxide levels were elevated because of a furnace leak.
